Emilio Gil

Prof. Emilio Gil is Full Professor of Agricultural Engineering at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC-BarcelonaTech), where he leads the Agricultural Mechanization Unit (UMA). With more than 40 years of academic, research and professional experience, he is internationally recognised for his contributions to pesticide application technology, precision crop protection, spray drift mitigation, variable-rate spraying and sustainable pesticide use.
He has coordinated numerous European and international research, innovation and training projects, including the Horizon 2020 project INNOSETA and the Horizon Europe project RENOVATE. He has also served as Director of the Syngenta–UPC Chair and has advised public authorities, universities, research centres, companies and professional organisations in numerous countries on pesticide application equipment, inspection systems, risk mitigation and agricultural digitalisation.
Prof. Gil represents Spain in CEN and ISO standardisation committees related to crop-protection equipment and has contributed to the development and implementation of international standards for new sprayers and sprayers in use. He is President of the International Jury for Innovation Awards at FIMA, a member of the Organising Committee of the Club of Bologna, and chaired the Organising Committee of ECPA 2025.
He has delivered more than 200 invited lectures worldwide, supervised numerous doctoral theses, and serves on the editorial boards of leading international journals
