Evangelia S. Papadopoulou is an Assistant Professor of Environmental Microbiology in the Department of Environmental Sciences at the University of Thessaly, Greece. Her work focuses on interactions between agrochemicals and soil microorganisms, with particular emphasis on soil nitrogen cycling, microbial ecology, and the environmental fate and ecotoxicology of agrochemicals. She also investigates the environmental behavior of agrochemicals and their interactions with soil microbial communities under environmentally relevant conditions. A major area of her research is the study of ammonia-oxidizing microorganisms and their responses to synthetic and biologically derived nitrification inhibitors. Using laboratory and soil-based approaches, she investigates the mechanisms of action, microbial specificity, environmental persistence, and non-target effects of these compounds, contributing to the development of sustainable strategies for improving nitrogen use efficiency and reducing reactive nitrogen losses and greenhouse gas emissions in agricultural systems.
